The Opportunity

The IT Support Technician is a key position in the organization, acting as the main support for the company's internal technical infrastructure. As an individual contributor, the IT Support Technician must be able to properly manage project fulfillment and schedules, while also dealing with day-to-day tasks. The IT Support Technician will ensure the accessibility of business systems, security of data, and streamlined operation of the IT department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization. This position reports into the IT Manager.

The IT Support Technician will have to be available after-hours as needed for emergency or occasional system support.

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, monitor, maintain, upgrade, support, backup, and recover all IT systems, in all locations, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals, and telecommunications.
  • Support and develop the security, reliability and integrity of all IT systems and business applications in all locations.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of best practices where appropriate.
  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software and equipment.
  • Work with personnel in all locations and in all companies to understand business technology needs.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies to identify opportunities, recommend strategies, and effectively leverage appropriate technology solutions that support future business needs.
  • Balance the introduction of new ideas, approaches, and strategies with the practical requirements of the business.
  • Log Issues in a service issue tracking program.

Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years IT operations and technical experience in a distributed enterprise organization that includes a large population of remote employees.
  • Experience with printers and common peripherals in a LAN/WAN environment.
  • Thorough understanding and experience with Windows server and desktop platforms, including but not limited to operating installation, configuration, management and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding and experience with core Windows networking services including DHCP, DNS, WINS and Active Directory.
  • Understanding and experience with Cisco networking products, including switches, routers and PIX firewalls, a plus.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage tasks across distributed locations.
  • Certifications a plus but not required: A+, MCP, MCSE, CCA, and CCNA.

Education:

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time for meetings or work, operate a personal computer, visually inspect forms and spreadsheets, conduct oral communication via telephone and in person, retrieve and return files in storage cabinets, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. General office environment. High levels of stress may occur.
